Legacy of Love No. 7: Dr. Mae Jemison

Because the stars were never out of reach—we were just waiting for a woman like her to rise.

She didn’t just reach space—

She stretched the boundaries of what little Black girls were told they could be.

She danced. She healed. She engineered.

And she did it all in her own rhythm.

Dr. Mae Jemison is a multidimensional being—doctor, astronaut, poet of the cosmos.

The first Black woman to travel into space, she carried more than data into orbit—

she carried the weight of ancestors, the dreams of daughters,

and the knowing that you don’t have to choose between science and soul.

She studied medicine.

She learned languages.

She trained in dance.

She looked to the stars—and saw herself.

And when she returned to Earth, she didn’t bask in the title.

She went to work building a world where more young minds could follow their wild ideas—

with The Earth We Share, with programs that blend global thinking, sacred play, and science rooted in community.

She doesn’t separate the cerebral from the sensual.

She doesn’t shrink herself to fit systems—

She remakes them.

Like me, like you, like all the women who birth something bold into the world—

She is not either/or. She is all.

So I honor her.

As a mother who reminds her children to dream big.

As a woman who believes in barefoot rituals and STEM books on the same altar.

As a creator who knows magic and logic were never meant to be enemies—they are lovers in the dance of evolution.

Thank you, Mae.

For stepping into the unknown with grace.

For making space sacred.

For reminding us that every orbit begins at the root.

You are a Legacy of Love.

Cosmic. Grounded. Unshakably yours.
